The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences (Ibn Al-Haitham) discussed a PhD dissertation entitled \u201cPreparation and Characterization of Eco-Friendly Nanocarbon Composites and Their Application in the Removal of Selected Pollutants\u201d submitted by Takleef Diyab Sallal Radi, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Abbas, Professor of Physical Chemistry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The dissertation was examined by a scientific committee comprising:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The dissertation aimed to employ the principles of green chemistry and environmental sustainability in the development of innovative nanomaterials with high efficiency for water treatment and pollutant removal. The study adopted a green synthesis approach utilizing aqueous and ethanolic extracts of bitter orange and orange leaves to prepare iron oxide nanoparticles (\u03b1-Fe2O3 and Fe3O4), which were subsequently characterized using advanced analytical techniques.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The research also focused on valorizing plant residues generated during the extraction process by converting them into effective adsorbent materials. In addition, activated carbon and nanocarbon composites were prepared and applied in water treatment processes for the removal of crystal violet dye from aqueous solutions. The study included kinetic, adsorption isotherm, and thermodynamic investigations to evaluate adsorption performance and better understand pollutant removal mechanisms.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The dissertation highlights the potential of environmentally friendly nanotechnology in addressing water pollution challenges while promoting the sustainable utilization of agricultural and plant-derived waste. The findings contribute to the development of cost-effective and sustainable water treatment technologies aligned with modern environmental protection strategies.<\/strong><\/p>\n
