Thesis in the Department of Chemistry Investigates the Preparation, Characterization, and Industrial and Biological Applications of Novel Metal Complexes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Department of Chemistry held a discussion of the M.Sc. thesis submitted by Hanaa Hashim Mohammed Hassan, entitled:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u201cPreparation, Characterization, and Industrial and Biological Applications of Complexes of Some Metal Ions with Azo Dye Ligands.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The research was supervised by Prof. Dr. Amer Jabbar Jarad and evaluated by a committee comprising Prof. Dr. Inam Ismail Yousif, Chair; Assist. Prof. Dr. Jinan Mohammed Mahmoud, Member; Lecturer Dr. Kanaan Mahmoud Tawfiq, Member; and Prof. Dr. Amer Jabbar Jarad, Member and Supervisor.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The thesis focused on the preparation and characterization of a number of metal complexes formed with azo dye ligands, together with an investigation of their structural and spectroscopic properties and their potential industrial and biological applications. The study contributes to expanding scientific knowledge of metal coordination chemistry and the practical potential of metal complexes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The findings demonstrated that the prepared ligands behave as bidentate ligands when coordinated with the metal ions under investigation, leading to the formation of five-membered chelate rings that contribute to enhancing the stability of the resulting complexes. These findings were supported by the proposed structural formulas of the prepared complexes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The UV\u2013Visible spectroscopic analysis of the chelated complexes also revealed that their maximum absorption bands occurred at higher wavelengths than those of the corresponding free ligands. This behavior indicates a red shift in the maximum absorption wavelength as a result of coordination between the ligands and the investigated metal ions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The study further demonstrated that the chelated complexes could be prepared readily after establishing the appropriate molar ratios. The resulting solid complexes exhibited good stability, showing no significant susceptibility to moisture or air. Their relatively high melting points also provided further evidence of their stability and potential suitability for different applications.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>On the biological side, the prepared ligands and their complexes exhibited varying biological activities against several bacterial and fungal species examined in the study. These findings provide a basis for further investigations into the biological properties and potential applications of such compounds.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The significance of the research lies in its integration of chemical synthesis, spectroscopic characterization, stability assessment, and biological evaluation of metal complexes. This multidisciplinary approach highlights the potential of coordination chemistry in developing compounds with promising industrial and biological applications.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The research is particularly aligned with the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>SDG 3 \u2013 Good Health and Well-being: through the investigation of the biological activity of the prepared ligands and metal complexes against selected bacterial and fungal species, supporting research into compounds with potential biological applications.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>SDG 9 \u2013 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: through the development and scientific investigation of new chemical compounds and the exploration of their industrial and biological applications, thereby supporting innovation and applied scientific research in chemistry.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>SDG 12 \u2013 Responsible Consumption and Production: through the scientific development and evaluation of new chemical compounds and their potential applications, providing a foundation for future research aimed at achieving more efficient and sustainable chemical applications.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The thesis represents a valuable contribution to the field of metal complex chemistry and azo dyes, while highlighting the important role of postgraduate research in advancing scientific knowledge, innovation, and the exploration of chemical solutions with potential industrial and biological applications.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_raw_js]JTNDc2NyaXB0JTNFJTIwJTIwdmFyJTIwdHJhbnNfcGFnZSUzRCUyMjYwNTEwJTIyJTNCJTIwJTNDJTJGc2NyaXB0JTNF[\/vc_raw_js][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<div class=\"cz_gap clr \" style=\"height: 25px\"><\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_width=&#8221;stretch_row_content&#8221;
