The nanoparticles were subsequently coated with curcumin, while functional modifications were introduced into chitosan to enhance its properties, followed by the incorporation of magnetite (Fe\u2083O\u2084) nanoparticles to impart magnetic functionality and enable potential manipulation and targeting using an external magnetic field.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>This hierarchical design seeks to combine the biological properties of curcumin and chitosan with the antibacterial activity associated with silver and the magnetic properties of magnetite, creating a multifunctional nanocomposite that may serve as a platform for investigating targeted drug delivery and advanced biomedical applications.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The prepared nanostructures were characterized using a comprehensive range of advanced analytical techniques, including Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), vibrating-sample magnetometry (VSM), and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). These techniques were employed to investigate the structural, morphological, elemental, and magnetic characteristics of the synthesized nanocomposite.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The study also evaluated the antibacterial activity of the nanocomposite against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains, together with its potential to inhibit bacterial biofilm formation. Biofilms represent a significant challenge in the management of certain bacterial infections because of their ability to promote bacterial persistence and reduce susceptibility to antimicrobial treatments.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Another aspect of the research examined the potential interaction between an external magnetic field and the bioactive components of the nanocomposite in promoting bacterial biofilm disruption and investigating its effects on cancer cells. MTT assays and microscopic assessment of cellular morphological changes were employed as part of the research approach to evaluate potential cytotoxicity and cellular selectivity against breast cancer cell lines.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The significance of the study lies in its integration of green synthesis with multifunctional nanomaterial design. By combining the biological activity of organic components, the antibacterial properties associated with silver, and the magnetic functionality of magnetite within a single nanocomposite, the research provides a platform for exploring future applications in targeted delivery and nanomedicine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The study recommended expanding the evaluation of Mag-Chit-Cur-Ag against a broader range of pathogenic and antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains to establish its full antibacterial potential. It also recommended further investigations using normal cell lines to compare the effects of the nanocomposite on healthy and cancerous cells and to provide additional evidence regarding its biocompatibility and safety.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Further recommendations included exploring the use of external magnetic fields to enhance targeted delivery and improve the potential effectiveness of the nanocomposite against bacterial biofilms or cancer cells at specific sites. The study also recommended testing the nanocomposite in in vivo models to assess its efficacy and biocompatibility before considering potential clinical applications, as well as optimizing the proportions of its components to improve biological performance while maintaining structural and chemical stability.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The research further proposed investigating the combination of the nanocomposite with other therapeutic agents or chemotherapy drugs to explore potential synergistic effects. Additional studies were recommended to elucidate its cellular and molecular mechanisms of action, particularly the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and related cellular pathways. Potential non-medical applications, including water treatment and food preservation, were also proposed based on the nanocomposite\u2019s antibacterial properties.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The study directly supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3): Good Health and Well-Being, through its focus on developing nanotechnological approaches that may contribute to bacterial and biofilm control and exploring potential applications in targeted drug delivery and nanomedicine. It also aligns with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, through the integration of green chemistry, nanotechnology, and advanced biomaterials in the development of a multifunctional nanoplatform with potential technological applications.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The thesis examination committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Taghreed Ali Salman, with Professor Dr. Ammar Jassim Mohammed and Assistant Professor Dr. Zainab Wajdi Ahmed serving as committee members.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The research reflects the Department of Chemistry\u2019s growing focus on applying modern approaches in green chemistry, nanotechnology, and biomaterials to address medical and environmental challenges. It highlights the role of academic research in fostering innovation and exploring more sustainable technologies with potential applications in future biomedical and environmental
