As part of its commitment to promoting volunteerism and strengthening community engagement, and within the humanitarian initiatives led by the Ibn Al-Haytham Volunteer Team in preparation for serving pilgrims during the Arbaeen pilgrimage, the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit at the College of Education for Pure Sciences / Ibn Al-Haytham, University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Ibn Al-Haytham Volunteer Team, organized a specialized training workshop on Thursday entitled “First Aid” to prepare volunteers assigned to medical service units.
The workshop combined both theoretical and practical training, covering the fundamentals of first aid, measurement of vital signs, and appropriate response procedures for emergency situations. The program aimed to equip volunteers with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to deliver efficient and responsible first-aid and medical support services during the Arbaeen pilgrimage, thereby enhancing the readiness of medical teams serving millions of visitors.
This initiative reflects the College’s ongoing commitment to developing students’ capabilities, fostering volunteerism, encouraging teamwork, and strengthening community service through high-quality training programs that integrate professional development with social responsibility.
The workshop contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 – Good Health and Well-being by promoting first-aid awareness and improving emergency preparedness. It also supports SDG 4 – Quality Education through practical skills development and lifelong learning, and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening cooperation between the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit and the Ibn Al-Haytham Volunteer Team in delivering meaningful community service and advancing sustainable development.
