The Department of Chemistry discussed a scientific study entitled “The Effect of the LEAD Strategy on Chemistry Achievement and Collaborative Work Skills,” conducted by Sara Maher Yassin Abbas under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Suzan Duraid Ahmed Zangana, Ph.D. in Methods of Teaching Chemistry.
The study aimed to investigate the effect of the LEAD strategy on chemistry achievement among second-year intermediate school students and to examine its effectiveness in developing their collaborative work skills. The research reflects an educational approach that seeks to employ contemporary instructional strategies to improve the quality of learning while enhancing student participation and interaction within the classroom environment.
The significance of the study lies in its focus on an innovative instructional strategy that goes beyond academic achievement to develop students’ collaborative and group-work skills. Such an approach can help students engage more effectively in learning activities, exchange ideas, participate in accomplishing educational tasks, and assume shared responsibility within learning groups.
The discussion committee consisted of:
- Prof. Dr. Wasan Maher Jalil – Chair,
- Prof. Dr. Kifah Mohsen Abdullah – Member,
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Anwar Abbas Mohammed – Member,
- Prof. Dr. Suzan Duraid Ahmed – Member and Supervisor,

The study reflects the Department of Chemistry’s commitment to advancing science and chemistry education through the adoption of contemporary and interactive instructional approaches. It also highlights the importance of integrating academic achievement with the development of collaborative and social skills that support students throughout their educational journey.
The study directly contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): Quality Education by supporting the development of teaching practices, improving academic achievement, and fostering the skills required for effective learning, cooperation, and collaborative work. It is also consistent with efforts to create more interactive and inclusive learning environments in which students play an active role in the educational process.
